Artist Helen Robertson has worked in an Acme studio for 30 years . Through mixed media installations and performances her recent work explores relations across women, architecture and wider ecologies. Her work’s focus on haptic experience echoes a concern with what Hannah Arendt described as 'the menace of no-thingness and no-bodyness' that contemporary culture threatens us with.
Her work has been shown nationally and internationally including Hayward Gallery London, Stadthaus Ulm Germany, Matt’s Gallery London, Arnolfini Gallery Bristol. She is currently working on a solo exhibition for Danielle Arnaud Gallery London June 2024. Recent exhibitions include Hanging in the Balance Five Years London 2023, The Undersides of Practice APT gallery 2020, Bauhaus: Utopia in Crisis Camberwell Space 2019, Come and go. Halt extreme left. Winchester Gallery, Winchester School of Art 2019, Drift Thames Side Studios Gallery, London 2019. Recent performances include its song a performance with dancer Antoinette Brooks Daw for Architectures in Air Brixton Library 2023, [these roarers] Whitstable Biennale 2018 (in collaboration with Lucy Gunning and Bernice Donszelmann), pine beech pine Architectural Association Hooke Park 2017. She is an Associate Lecturer in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and Camberwell College of Arts and is part of the collaborative curatorial group Outside Architecture.
Jonathan Harvey Tenant Award
As part of Acme’s commitment to provide transformational support for artists at all stages of their career, this award recognises Acme artist tenants who have made a long-term commitment to their arts practice. Named in honour of Acme’s Co-Founder Jonathan Harvey OBE, the award offers an artist fee of £5,000 and financial support towards the facilitation of the successful project up to a maximum of £7,000.
