Samantha Donnelly

Fire Station Residency
2015-2020

Samantha Donnelly’s practice is primarily sculptural. She has a materials-led approach to making, underpinned by references to art history and popular culture - specifically photography, TV, film and advertising. Her work is concerned in how the media and images of the self, influence the narratives we become or adopt, particularly in response to the democratisation and repetition of imagery that creeps into everyday life.

Samantha has shown work in group and solo shows in the UK including Ceri Hand Gallery, 176, Contemporary Arts Society, The Cornerhouse, Vitrine, and the Harris Museum. She has also participated in international residencies including Triangle Workshop in New York, and programmes in Rotterdam, Berlin, Helsinki, Poland, Ireland and Italy.

Fire Station Residency 2015-2020

Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This five year fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 2015-2020 residents were selected by former Acme Residency and Projects Manager Julia Lancaster, and artists and former Fire Station residents Erika Tan and Ben Cove.
