2016/17
Kristaps Ancāns' works across media between the fields of sculpture, painting, text and installation.
Kristaps’ practice explores confusion in relationships between humans, nature and machines through an ever evolving conceptual game imbibed with its own artificial intelligence. Kristaps' artistic concept is rooted in science. His sculptures and installations often contain a kinetic component. Repetitious movements conceptually explore relationships between static/passive and kinetic/active components within his work. Language is equally an integral part of Kristaps' artistic concept.
Upon completing his award in September 2017, Kristaps presented SEEP at PEER alongside fellow early career programme artists Josh Berry, Caroline Streck and Ruth Waters.
Helen Scott Lidgett Award
The Helen Scott Lidgett Award was a partnership between Acme and Central Saint Martins, funded by Acme and the Helen Scott Lidgett Fund between 2013-19. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award included a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
